The Madhya Pradesh administration exempted ‘The Kerala Story’ from sales tax on May 6.
Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced on Tuesday that the state will exempt the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’ from taxation.

Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, will view the film with his cabinet colleagues at a special screening at Lok Bhawan on May 12, according to the chief minister’s secretariat.

After proclaiming the film tax-free in the state, the UP chief minister viewed Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ at a special screening the year prior.

Abhijat Mishra, secretary of the UP BJP, recently showed the film to 100 female students in Lucknow. After Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh is the second state to declare the controversial film tax-free.

“The film depicts the destruction of daughters who fall victim to the trap of love jihad.” In a video message, the chief minister of India, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said that it also reveals the terrorists’ plans.

“Although we have already passed a law prohibiting (forced) conversion, this film raises awareness of the issue.” This film should be seen by everyone, so the government of Madhya Pradesh has declared it tax-free,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has endorsed the film, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi referencing it during a campaign rally in Karnataka.

“The film ‘The Kerala story’ attempts to expose the effects of terrorism on a society, particularly in Kerala, a beautiful state populated by industrious, talented, and intelligent people. Last week, at a campaign rally in Ballari, Modi stated that the Congress party is attempting to prohibit the film and support terrorists.

The film depicting the forced conversion of females prior to their recruitment by the terrorist organization Islamic State has already sparked a political uproar across the nation. On Monday, the West Bengal government prohibited the Sudipto Sen-directed film.

“The West Bengal government has resolved to ban The Kerala Story. The chief minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee, stated on Monday that this measure was taken to prevent any incidents of hatred and violence and to preserve the state’s serenity.

The Kerala High Court ordered the Central government to respond to an NGO’s petition to prohibit the film “The Kerala Story.” The court also inquired whether the matter was pending before the Supreme Court, as it would be improper for the High Court to intervene if it was. A division bench comprised of Justices N Nagaresh and Mohammed Nias CP is hearing the petition filed by Advocate Anoop VR, the state head of the non-governmental organization Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle.

The petitioner demanded the removal of all erroneous, unsubstantiated statements and scenes insulting to the Muslim community and the state of Kerala from the film ‘The Kerala Story’. “They claim that it is based on true stories, which would indicate that massive conversions are occurring in Kerala. This lowers the dignity of the State and the entire population. It is offensive. Since the trailer is inseparable from the film, it cannot be claimed that no one has seen it. Kerala is known for its religious tolerance and secular outlook.

“The Kerala Story” will undermine the state’s secular fabric, claims the petitioner.

The petitioner seeking a prohibition on the film also argued that its release would disrupt and destroy the state’s secular fabric. The film portrays the state of Kerala in a negative aspect on purpose. The teaser and trailer are sufficient evidence that the film has the propensity and potential to disturb public order, decency, and morality, especially among women and the Muslim community.

He stated that the film “The Kerala Story” offends the religious sensibilities of the Muslim community, “the film portrays Kerala in a negative light, and its release will offend the religious sensibilities of the Muslim community and destroy the state’s secular fabric.”

The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala continued its assault on the controversial Hindi film ‘The Kerala Story’ on Tuesday, May 3. The party asserted that the film was “sponsored by the BJP” and part of the “Sangh Parivar agenda” to incite division and animosity in the state. M V Govindan, state secretary of the CPI(M), stated that the BJP is attempting to corrupt the minds of the people by depicting in the film “approximately 32,000 women” allegedly going missing in Kerala and the events preceding it.
