NEW ZEALAND BATTLES CYCLONE GABRIELLE
Cyclone Gabrielle weakened and moved away from New Zealand on Wednesday, as the country began to examine the damage caused by heavy flooding, landslides, and high winds, which resulted in the deaths of three people.
Gabrielle, which arrived in New Zealand on Sunday and is currently moving down the east coast of the North Island, has isolated a number of communities, closed roads, and submerged homes in its path.
Residents in the hardest-hit areas are being urged to ration their consumption of water and food in response to growing concerns about the possibility of supplies running low.
The search for a volunteer fireman who has been missing since Sunday night after a landslide at a beach community in Auckland continues to be conducted by teams from the fire department and the emergency services.
