Narendra Modi, the prime minister, flew a Tejas plane on Saturday at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) site in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
“A sortie on the Tejas was successfully completed.” “The experience was incredibly enriching; it gave me a renewed sense of pride and optimism about our national potential and gave me a lot more faith in our country’s own abilities,” Modi wrote on X while sharing some pictures.
Besides that, he was supposed to look over and visit HAL’s factory, which made things like Tejas jets.
The prime minister has been pushing for defense goods to be made in India and has talked about how his government has increased both manufacturing in India and exports. Several countries want to buy the light combat aircraft Tejas. During Modi’s state visit to the US, US defense giant GE Aerospace signed an agreement with HAL to work together on making engines for the Mk-II-Tejas.
“The Modi government has taken huge steps to make our defense more ready and to make things more Indian,” defense sources said. “These steps include the Tejas aircraft.”
In 2016, the first form of the plane was given to the IAF. Sources also said that two IAF squadrons, 45 Squadron and 18 Squadron, are fully active with LCA Tejas right now.
“Under the Modi government, an order of 83 LCA Mk 1A planes worth ₹36,468 crore has been placed with HAL, and delivery is set to begin in February 2024,” they said.
What is a Tejas aircraft?
Tejas is a multi-role attack plane with a single engine that can operate in high-threat airspace. It is meant to defend the air, look for things in the water, and launch attacks.
