The Hundred 2023: Wayne Parnell to lead Northern Superchargers

The team was forced to released their skipper Faf du Plessis due to his commitment with St. Lucia Kings in CPL.

Wayne Parnell has been appointed captain of Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. Due to his commitments with St. Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the team was forced to release Faf du Plessis as captain prior to the upcoming season. As a result, Parnell has been handed the opportunity to lead the team.

Notably, the 33-year-old only appeared in two games for Superchargers during the 2022 season after being acquired as a replacement player. In the absence of his current captain at Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 edition, the team has resolved to retain him and give him greater responsibilities.

New Chic

Intriguingly, Parnell led Pretoria Capitals to the final of the inaugural edition of SA20 and is presently leading Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket. Thus, he has the necessary experience that will be useful for the third edition of The Hundred.

Meanwhile, James Foster, the chief coach of the Superchargers, was thrilled to have Parnell rejoin the team. He stated that the cricketer is very familiar with the conditions, and that his experience could prove invaluable.

“We are thrilled that Wayne has rejoined the team. Having played for Durham in this year’s T20 Blast, he is familiar with the team and the conditions. Foster was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying, “He brings a wealth of experience from his international and domestic career, which will be invaluable to the team.”

On the other hand, Hollie Armitage will continue as captain of the Superchargers women’s team. Dani Hazell, the head coach of the women’s squad, confirmed the news and stated that the cricketer performed admirably in the previous edition, so they are pleased to have her return.

“Hollie performed admirably last season and has a wealth of expertise. Last year, she led the Northern Diamonds to their first championship by claiming the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, demonstrating that she knows how to win, as stated by Dani Hazell.
