BJP official killed by Maoists:In the third murder of a BJP functionary in Chhattisgarh by Maoists in the past six days, a party functionary and former village sarpanch was allegedly hacked to death with axes Saturday (February 11) afternoon at Dantewada in the Bastar region.
The deceased has been identified by the police as Ramdhar Alami, age 43, a former Sarpanch of Hitameta from 2015 to 2020. According to the police, the Maoists left behind a letter alleging that Alami was a police informant and involved in the Bodhghat dam project.
Alami was a member of the BJP for the past fifteen years. In 2018, he served as vice president of the Barsur division, according to Chaitram Atami, district president of the BJP in Dantewada. When asked if Chaitram received threats, he responded, “Yes, I have received threats and have been provided security.”
Alami was a Perma who performed religious rites for an Adivasi goddess. On Friday, he and his relative travelled to Thulthuli for religious ceremonies, and on Saturday afternoon, they returned to Hitameta.
At 3 p.m., when he and 25 others were traversing a jungle, a team of Maoists — two women and three men armed with an axe, bows, and arrows — blocked their path, according to the police.
They bound Alami’s hands and took him into the jungle as others watched in horror, surrounded by Maoists. Approximately 30 minutes later, they returned with a letter informing Alami’s relative that he had died and that they could remove his body. The group walked a distance before discovering Alami’s body with axe wounds to the chest and back of the head.
Alami’s descendants include two wives, children, and a brother.
Neelkanth Kakem, 48, the divisional head of the BJP in Awapalli, was stabbed to death by three Maoists in the Bijapur district on February 5. On February 10, two suspected Maoists shot and killed Sagar Sahu, 47, the deputy chief of the BJP in the Narayanpur district, at his home.
