Kobe Bryant’s family will receive $29 million For Helicopter Crash Photographs
According to a report, Kobe Bryant’s family will receive $29 million (approximately 2,392,011,176) from Los Angeles County to resolve a lawsuit over the helicopter crash photographs. This included the $15 million (Rs 1,238,089,985) that the jury awarded them last year.
The lawsuit was filed by his widow Vanessa Bryant in response to deputies and firefighters sharing graphic images of the NBA star, his daughter, and other victims of a helicopter disaster in 2020. Notably, Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters who raced to the scene of the crash in January 2020 took photographs of the devastation, including the remains of the Los Angeles Lakers legend and his 13-year-old daughter.
Vanessa Bryant then filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County, claiming the photographs violated her privacy and caused her emotional distress.
The settlement was deemed “fair and reasonable” by LA County’s attorneys, who added, “We hope Mrs. Bryant and her children continue to recover from their loss.”
“Today represents the triumphant conclusion of Mrs. Bryant’s courageous fight to hold those responsible for this heinous behaviour accountable. She fought for her spouse, her daughter, and all other members of the community whose deceased family members were treated similarly disrespectfully. We hope that her trial victory and this settlement will halt this practise “Tuesday, attorneys for Vanessa Bryant issued a statement.
The agreement settles any future claims by Mr. Bryant’s three surviving daughters, related state court cases, and other expenses. Families of additional victims received $2.5 million in compensation for the 2021 photographing incident.
