National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, along by a specially trained dog squad and the essential equipment, have left Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad for search and rescue operations in Turkey. After tremors shook Turkey and Syria on Monday, India dispatched the NDRF team to Turkey.
Deepak Talwar, Deputy Commandant of the NDRF, who is leading the first NDRF team from India to Turkey,”This team consists of 47 NDRF soldiers and three senior officials who will do recovery and response work in accordance with UN rules.”
He went on to say, “We’ve got orders for two separate squads. The first team will be leaving very shortly, and the second team will go in the morning. Following catastrophe response, humanitarian help would be delivered in accordance with Government of India norms.”

Talwar, stated: “The team is moving in accordance with the NDRF-prescribed makeup, and we are moving appropriately. There are also medical components present. Also present are paramedics.”
Mohsen Shahedi, DIG, Operations and Training, NDRF, remarked, “As you are aware, a tremendous earthquake struck Turkey and Syria. As part of HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief) efforts, the Indian government has decided to send two NDRF teams to Turkey.”
He went on to say, “The teams are dispatched to assist with the rescue and relief efforts. This expedition will involve approximately 101 NDRF men from two teams, one from the Eight battalion of NDRF in Ghaziabad and the other from the second battalion in Kolkata.”
Meanwhile, the official spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, tweeted: “The implementation of India’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) capabilities. The initial shipment of earthquake relief materials, including NDRF Search and Rescue Teams, specially trained dog squads, medical supplies, drilling machinery, and other essential equipment, is en route to Turkey.”
In a statement released on Monday, the prime minister’s office (PMO) said that a meeting was held and it was decided that search and rescue teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and medical teams along with relief supplies would be dispatched immediately in coordination with the Turkish government.
“In addition, medical teams are being prepared with skilled physicians and paramedics carrying vital medications. In collaboration with the Turkish authorities and the Indian Embassy in Ankara and Consulate General in Istanbul, relief supplies will be delivered “the Prime Minister’s Office said. P K Mishra, the Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary, convened a meeting in South Block to explore immediate relief measures.
The death toll from Monday’s earthquakes in Turkey and Syria has surpassed 3,800. Following earthquakes, the total number of injured in Syria and Turkey has reached 15,914 people. Anadolu Agency claimed that at least 2,379 people were killed and 14,483 others were injured as a result of earthquakes in southern Turkey on Monday.
According to the Syrian Ministry of Health, 711 people have died and 1,431 have been injured as a result of the earthquake, including in Lattakia, Aleppo, Hama, and Tartus, SANA said.
CNN claimed that the Syrian Civil Defense, also known as the “White Helmets,” recorded 740 dead in opposition-controlled territory.
Monday, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake centred in the Pazarcik district shook Kahramanmaras and many provinces, including Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Malatya, Osmaniye, Hatay, and Kilis, according to a report by the Anadolu Agency.

Later in the day, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake centred in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras shook the region. The earthquake was also felt in Lebanon and Syria, among other adjacent nations.
Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in Goksun, Turkey.
