PM Modi, CJI express pain; key accused nabbed after 77 days

The horrifying events in Manipur have prompted the state’s chief minister, N Biren Singh, to indicate that the death penalty may be considered for those responsible.

The primary suspect who stripped Kuki women and paraded them nude has been arrested after a video of the two-month-old incident went viral and sparked outrage across the nation. N Biren Singh, chief minister of Manipur, stated that a comprehensive investigation is underway and that all perpetrators will face severe punishment, including the possibility of capital punishment. In the face of national outrage and mounting pressure from the opposition for Prime Minister Modi to speak out, Modi vowed action and expressed that his heart was filled with anger and pain.

Manipur women paraded naked: ‘Capital punishment will be considered’

After the initial arrest, which was made only after the footage of the incident went viral, N Biren Singh stated that the death penalty would be considered for the perpetrators. As calls for his resignation grew louder, the prime minister tweeted, “Let it be known that there is absolutely no place in our society for such heinous acts.”

“My heart goes out to the two women who were subjected to a profoundly disgraceful and inhumane act, as depicted in the upsetting video that surfaced yesterday. As soon as the video surfaced, the Manipur Police took Suo-moto notice of the incident and moved swiftly to make the first arrest this morning. A thorough investigation is currently ongoing, and we will ensure that all of the perpetrators are punished severely, including considering the possibility of the death penalty. “Let it be known that such heinous acts have no place in our society,” the chief minister tweeted.

‘Using women as an instrument…simply unacceptable’: CJI

Taking suo moto notice of the viral video, the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, stated that the incident is inexcusable. “Using women as a tool in a region of communal conflict. The worst constitutional violations. We are profoundly troubled by the videos that have emerged. We will act if the government does not,” the CJI stated.

My heart filled with pain, anger: PM Modi

In his address prior to the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Modi mentioned Manipur and stated that his heart is filled with anguish and rage. The incident is a disgrace for the 140 crore people of India, and no perpetrator will be spared in any part of the country, Prime Minister Modi assured.
