The Nehru Museum Memorial and Library, named after India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, has been renamed the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library Society, according to an announcement made by the ministry of culture on Friday.
It was decided at a special meeting of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society to alter its name to the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society, according to the ministry.
The Society’s vice president, defence minister Rajnath Singh, presided over the meeting, according to the report.
In his welcome address, the chairman of the executive council, Nripendra Misra, stated that the need for a name change highlights the nation’s profound commitment to democracy and that the institution’s name should reflect its new form.
Singh “welcomed the proposal for a name change” because the institution displays the contributions and responses of all prime ministers from Jawaharlal Nehru to Narendra Modi, according to a press release from the ministry.
Singh emphasized that “all the colors of a rainbow must be proportionally represented in order for it to be beautiful” while comparing the prime ministership to an institution and the journeys of various prime ministers to the various colors of a rainbow.

“Therefore, the resolution has a new name, honors all of our previous prime ministers, and is democratic in nature,” it continued.
