LUCKNOW Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath slammed the Opposition on Thursday over Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statement against “Sanatan,” stating that no one can wipe out eternal Sanatan Dharma.
He stated that neither the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb nor Ravan (the demon monarch in the epic Ramayan) nor contemporary “political parasites” would ever be able to do it.
Yogi Adityanath spoke for the first time on Sanatan Dharma since Udhayanidhi’s criticisms of ‘Sanatan’.
“Attempts are being made to cast fingers at our Sanatan culture and insult our heritage. The Sanatan Dharma that was not destroyed by Ravan’s arrogance, the Sanatan Dharma that was not shaken by Kansa’s (another demon king) challenge, or by the atrocities of Babar and Aurangzeb, cannot be destroyed by political parasites calling for its eradication,” said Adityanath at an annual Shri Krishna Janmashtami celebration event at the Lucknow Police Lines, without naming Stalin or anyone else.
“These political parasites should be humiliated of their statements…they do not realize that spitting at the Sun has no effect. “Instead, the spittle returns to one’s face,” he added.
Adityanath continued, “At a time when the nation is advancing in the right direction, with renewed energy and zeal, while respecting our heritage, some individuals cannot tolerate it. They disapprove of India’s increasing global prestige and standing. In the Amrit Kaal, India is making rapid progress and recording daily achievements. Some individuals have resorted to pointing fingers at our Sanatan Dharma in an effort to impede the country’s march toward progress.
Udhayanidhi’s statement provoked saffron rage, with BJP leaders and seers demanding an apology and a retraction.
The BJP also drew a connection between the DMK leader’s tirade and the Opposition coalition INDIA, stating that the leader’s words revealed the anti-majoritarian mindset of the alliance.
The DMK and the Congress are both members of the Tamil Nadu ruling coalition and the 28-party Opposition bloc.
Adityanath, referring to the upcoming Ram Temple in Ayodhya, stated, “About 500 years ago, Sanatan was insulted, but it ascended…presently, a magnificent Ram Temple is being constructed there.”

Talking about Lord Krishna, Yogi said: “Nearly 5,000 years ago, in Mathura — which is in the present-day Uttar Pradesh — Lord Krishna was born to establish dharma, truth, and justice…whenever injustice and atrocities rose in India, divine avatars guided the society.”
The event was attended by the deputy chief minister Brijesh Pathak, the chief secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, and senior officers from the home and police departments.
