According to various news agencies, at least nine police officers were killed and many others were wounded on Monday as a result of a suicide bomber driving a motorcycle into a police truck in the southwestern region of Pakistan. According to Reuters, a police spokesperson stated that the assault took place in the city of Sibbi, which is located approximately 160 kilometres east of Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan province.

According to a senior police official named Abdul Hai Aamir, who spoke with AFP, “the suicide bomber was riding a motorbike and struck the truck from behind.”

According to Kachhi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahmood Notezai, the injured people are currently being rushed to a nearby hospital, and bomb disposal squads and security officials have arrived at the scene. This information was reported by Dawn. According to a report by AFP, he stated that the police were just getting back from a week-long cattle show where they had been providing protection. There has been no claim of responsibility for the assault made by any group as of yet.

For decades, insurgents of the Baloch ethnic group have been engaged in a conflict with the government over the latter’s alleged exploitation of Balochistan’s abundant gas and mineral resources.
