After Hamas militants in Palestine launched a surprise rocket attack, Israel declared a “state of war” and attacked the Gaza strip from the air. The militants said it was only their “first strike.” In a video message after the killings, Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, said that the country is at war.
He said, “We are at war and we will win. It’s not an operation or a round. It’s at war.”
Benjamin Netanyahu’s first words since Hamas started the multi-front attack on Israel were made in a TV speech. He told the call-up of reserve troops that Hamas would “pay a price that it hasn’t known until now.”
The prime minister also told the military to clear the towns where Hamas militants had come in and were still fighting with Israeli troops.
Israel’s defense minister said this happened after Palestinian terrorists started a “war” against the country. This happened after a barrage of rockets was fired and fighters from the Palestinian enclave got into Israel. Officials say that at least two people were killed in Israel. Yoav Gallant, Israel’s defense minister, said that the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas has “launched a war against the State of Israel.”
“Troops are fighting against the enemy at every location,” he told us. The rocket fire from inside Gaza caused Israel’s forces to start attacking from the air.
“Dozens of IDF fighter jets are currently striking a number of targets belonging to the Hamas terrorist organisation in the Gaza Strip,” the military stated.

At the same time, Israeli troops hit targets in Gaza, which made air raid sirens go off all the time in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. It said that forces were fighting with guns with Hamas fighters who had sneaked into Israel in at least seven places. The army told Israel that the fighters had snuck across the fence and even come in from the air.
