Saturday, the Ambassador of India to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and the Ambassador of the United States to India, Eric Garcetti, discussed the immediate priorities for strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and the United States.
“Congratulated @ericgarcetti on his inauguration as the United States’ ambassador to India. As he prepares to depart for India, we discussed some immediate priorities for strengthening the bilateral relationship in accordance with the vision of our respective leaders. Sandhu tweeted on Saturday that he looked forward to working with Eric.
On Friday, former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris as the new US Ambassador to India.
During the oath-taking ceremony, Garcetti stated: “I, Eric M. Garcetti, solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely and without any mental reservations; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office I am about to assume.”
Then, Harris congratulated Garcetti on assuming his duties.
Eris Garcetti, the former mayor of Los Angeles, was confirmed as US ambassador to India by the Senate on March 15 (local time).
Garcetti won the election by a vote of 52 to 42, which was also a significant victory for US President Joe Biden, who stood by his political ally in the face of allegations and a drawn-out process that has left the world’s most populous democracies without US representatives.
Garcetti issued the following statement in response to the outcome: “I’m ecstatic with today’s outcome, which was a decisive and bipartisan decision to replace a crucial position that has been vacant for an extended period of time. Now begins the difficult labor.”

“I am extremely grateful to President Biden and the White House for their trust and support throughout this process, as well as to all Senators on both sides of the aisle, whether they voted for me or not, for their deliberate consideration. I am anxious to begin representing our vital interests in India,” he continued.
