Understanding the DxOMark Rating

I get it, the DxOMark rating can get confusing for some people, obviously, smartphone cameras are not rated like films such as three out of five stars or an IMDB rating of 7/10. Each smartphone rating for DxOMark goes way beyond the threshold of 100. So, does that mean smartphones that have 100 + ratings are much better than any smartphone on the planet? My answer would be: No.

DxOMark has its own set of algorithms to compute these ratings/numbers. However, each number represents some level of image quality. In a nutshell, DxOMark breaks a smartphone camera performance on photos and videos, photos have their own subcategory, and videos have their own. Now, each subcategory score is then calculated, and a weighted average score is showcased as the final rating, and it is because of that a smartphone camera score can reach 100+ mark.

Conclusion:

Each smartphone camera is unique, and it has its role and purpose in shooting an image. E.g., the Apple iPhone 13 Pro score is 137, and the score of the Huawei P50 Pro is 144. However, iPhone is still a better camera smartphone if you want to shoot a pro-res video because it has a new sensor shift and cinematic mode. On the other hand, Huawei P50 Pro has no such feature. So, in the end, surely DxOmark scores matters at some level; however, it is also important to ensure the purpose of your smartphone use.
