Akshay Kumar, who has been mocked for his Canadian citizenship, has taken to Twitter, now X, to proclaim that he has obtained Indian citizenship. On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, he conveyed the news.

Sharing a photo of his citizenship document, an elated Akshay wrote “Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!”

Reportedly, Akshay was granted Canadian citizenship in exchange for his offer to use his “star power to advance Canada-Indian relations.” In a 2010 interview, the Hera Pheri actor, who holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Windsor, claimed to have “dual citizenship.”
Akshay announced in 2019 that he intends to renounce his Canadian citizenship and has applied for an Indian passport.As a result of his Canadian citizenship, Akshay has endured years of intense criticism from a subset of film fans. “Having a Canadian passport does not diminish my Indianness. I am predominantly Indian. During an engagement, he stated, “I’ve been in the United States for nine years, ever since I received my passport.”

Currently, Akshay is enjoying the triumph of his most recent film, OMG 2. Despite its ‘A’ rating and competition from Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, OMG 2 is performing well at the box office. The film has grossed Rs 55.17 crore to date and is expected to continue its success in the coming days.
Next, he will appear in the untitled Hindi adaptation of Soorarai Pottru. Akshay also stars alongside Tiger Shroff in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. In addition, he will star in the upcoming sequels to Hera Pheri, Welcome, and Housefull.
