“Results Show Strong Faith in Democracy”: PM on Big Northeast Win

“These elections demonstrate people’s great confidence in democracy and democratic structures in the nation,” PM Narendra Modi said

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated today at the party’s headquarters in Delhi that the BJP’s success in the assembly elections in three northeastern states demonstrates the people’s strong faith in democracy and the democratic process.
Tripura was easily secured by the BJP. Together with its ally, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, it leads in Nagaland. In Meghalaya, the National People’s Party asked the BJP to prevent a hung parliament.

PM Modi stated, “The outcomes of these elections demonstrate the people’s strong faith in democracy and democratic institutions in the nation.” The crowd responded with chants of “Modi, Modi, Modi.”

The manner in which the northeast election results have been widely publicised demonstrates that the region is neither distant from Delhi nor lacking in dil (heart).

The Prime Minister attributed the success to the diligent work of BJP activists in the three northeastern states. “Our party employees in the northeast labour extraordinarily harder than we do. They confront numerous obstacles, “PM Modi said, garnering an enormous applause.

He asked the audience to turn on the illumination on their mobile phones and wave them as a symbolic gesture of gratitude to the people of the northeast.
The BJP-IPFT (Indigenous Progressive Front of Tripura) alliance won 33 of the state’s 60 seats, regaining power in Tripura. Meghalaya was headed for a deadlocked legislature when Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, whose National People’s Party is the frontrunner, called the chief strategist of the BJP, Amit Shah. In Nagaland, the BJP and its coalition ally, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), hold 37 of the 60 assembly seats.

The BJP claims that it was able to retain power in the three northeastern states due to the popularity of the Modi government’s infrastructure projects and other rapid regional development initiatives.

Prime Minister Modi stated that many areas of the region endured months-long blockades, insurgency, and violence under previous regimes.
Before PM Modi’s speech, BJP chief JP Nadda criticised the opposition Congress for decades of neglecting the northeast. He stated that the opposition party transformed the region into “a cash machine”
