After Vivek Agnihotri posted a photo of Aishwarya Rai from the Cannes Film Festival 2023 and criticized the use of ‘costume slaves,’ writer Shobhaa De mocked the actor’s silver attire and demanded an explanation. While many social media users expressed their displeasure with Aishwarya’s red carpet attire, many defended the actor in the comments section of a recent Instagram post by Shobhaa.
Shobhaa shared a photo of Aishwarya Rai on the red carpet in a silver gown by Sophie Couture with the caption, “What is this, plisssss? “Can anyone explain Cannes?”
In response, one of her followers wrote, “Shobhaji is still so preoccupied with Aishwarya’s appearance… Let’s honor and appreciate her for being invited annually to the Cannes Film Festival.” Another person responded, “Madam, her name is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.” She can make a sack appear like haute couture. Irony is seated in Bandra Kurla Complex in your pajamas while judging all the looks with chai (tea) in one hand and your cell phone in the other.”
In response to the post, entrepreneur Aishwarya Nair Mathew wrote, “Hey, it’s alright – they do them, you do you… No two people are identical, and creativity can be interpreted in numerous ways. I’m not a devotee of the style, but I might like the other Aishwarya. Therefore, let’s celebrate that instead of attempting to comprehend it…”

A person also wrote, “As an image consultant, I’d say it’s pure drama… but it’s not her style!” Simply attempting to attract attention! Aishwarya had flown with her daughter Aaradhya to Cannes. She walked down the red carpet at the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiere. She did not secure her tresses. The garment was described on the official Instagram account of Sophie Couture. The post stated, “Unveiling a mind-blowing creation from our Maison, paired with lightweight aluminum details, a signature corset, and crystals, from the Cannes Capsule Collection.”
