Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, has been elected as the third Vice President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

In addition to the IMD DG, two other individuals were elected to the position of WMO Vice President. They are Eoin Moran, the Irish director of Met Éireann, and Daouda Konate, the Ivorian director of meteorology.
