Malayalam actor Innocent passes away at 75

Popular Malayalam actor and former MP, Innocent, breathed his last on March 26 after prolonged illness. Prithviraj Sukumaran, Khusbu and several other actors took to social media to pay tribute.

Innocent, a well-known Malayalam film actor and former member of the Lok Sabha, passed away on Sunday after being hospitalized earlier this month. He had 75 years of age.
According to PTI, the hospital stated in a press release, “He was infected with Covid and had respiratory problems as well as multiple organ failure, which led to heart failure.”

The hospital announced yesterday that the actor was on cardiopulmonary support, in which a machine pumps and oxygenates the patient’s blood outside the body.In 2012, Innocent was diagnosed with cancer. Three years later, he announced that he had conquered the disease and wrote a book entitled “Laughter in the Cancer Ward” about his battle with cancer.

Pinarayi Vijayan, chief minister of Kerala, lamented the demise of the former member of the Lok Sabha. Mr. Vijayan stated, “Innocent’s unique acting style won the hearts of the public, and as a public figure, he touched the lives of people by championing their causes.”

Senior Congressman Shashi Tharoor also expressed his condolences for Innocent’s passing and described him as a tremendously inventive and talented actor.

“Mourning the passing of character actor, comedian, and former Kerala MP Innocent, who died recently at the age of 75. In addition to being a brilliantly inventive and talented actor, he was a wonderful person with whom it was a joy to interact in the Lok Sabha. RIP. Om Shanti,” stated Mr. Tharoor on Twitter.

Khushbu Sundar of the BJP stated that a “priceless gem” had been lost.

Ms Sundar said,”Devastated!! We have lost an exceptional actor. More so a wonderful individual. He was a living legend. With #Innocent Sir’s passing, we have lost a priceless asset. His soul shall dwell in peace. Sincere condolences are extended to his family, friends, and followers.”

Independent candidate Innocent won the 2014 Lok Sabha election in the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency with the support of the Left Democratic Front. (LDF).

Innocent entered the film industry in 1972 with the film Nrityashala starring Prem Nazir and Jayabharathi. He was born in 1948 in Inrinjalakuda. Additionally, he served as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) for twelve consecutive years.

His career spanned over four decades and 500 films, and he is fondly remembered as a comedian. He was last seen in the 2022 film “Kaduva” by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
