Kejriwal backs wrestlers, then takes aim at PM: ‘Modi ji embraced the one who…?’

Saturday, the chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the midst of an ongoing protest by some of India’s best wrestlers in the nation’s capital.

Saturday, the chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the midst of an ongoing protest by some of India’s best wrestlers in the nation’s capital. The wrestlers are demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on sexual harassment charges. Referring to the arrest of his former deputy Manish Sisodia in the alleged liquor policy scam, Kejriwal claimed that the prime minister imprisoned the individual who provided education to the impoverished while embracing the individual “who exploited the women athletes.”

“Why did Modi ji imprison the person who taught poor children and embrace the person who exploited women players?” In a tweet in Hindi, Kejriwal posed this as a query.

Kejriwal also met with wrestlers protesting Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Jantar Mantar, and he urged all Indians who love their country to support them in their struggle. In his address from the protest site, Kejriwal also urged citizens from across the nation to take leave and travel to Jantar Mantar to show their support for the wrestlers.

He reiterated the demonstrators’ claim that the electricity and water supply to the protest site had been cut off, and that food and mattresses were prohibited from entering.

“All of these female athletes who have brought honor to the nation are our daughters; they deserve justice.” Regardless of the accused’s strength, he should receive the harshest punishment,” he later tweeted in Hindi.

The Delhi Police filed FIRs against Singh after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the force, informed a Supreme Court bench composed of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha that a case would be registered on Friday.

However, the aggrieved wrestlers resolved to continue their protest demanding the arrest and dismissal of the WFI president from all positions, citing a lack of confidence in Delhi Police.

“We do not trust Delhi police because it took them six days to file a FIR. We’ll observe their actions. We are unwavering in our determination to imprison the WFI president. I urge the Indian Prime Minister to relieve the WFI president of all responsibilities. This pertains to all sports, and I encourage all of them to attend in support of our team, and I hope to maintain contact with them all. This is the time to protect the future of athletics and athletes in the nation. All of the most renowned athletes should support us and help save Indian sports. “If they don’t come out today, they’ll never be able to protect India’s sporting culture,” said renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat at the Friday press conference.
