Mick Fleetwood: Fleetwood Mac without Christine McVie is “unthinkable”

Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours line-up from 1977 included Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, and John McVie.

Mick Fleetwood:

Following the passing of longtime member Christine McVie in November, Mick Fleetwood believes that Fleetwood Mac is “done.” The band’s co-founding member Fleetwood says he still intends to perform, just “not as Fleetwood Mac.”

He remarked, “I think right now, I honestly think the line in the sand has been made with the loss of Chris,” in an interview with the LA Times on Sunday, February 5, at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

We’ve all said it before, so I’d say we’re done. Right now, it’s kind of inconceivable.

Following a brief illness, the keyboardist and singer passed away at a hospital in November at the age of 79. McVie, who was then known as Christine Perfect, married bassist John McVie two years prior to joining Fleetwood Mac on a full-time basis in 1970.

Fleetwood said he wants to pursue new projects and mimic the band’s current and previous members, including Stevie Nicks, Mike Campbell, Neil Finn, and Lindsey Buckingham.

“They all go outside and play, so I’m going to do the same thing, find someone to play with,” he declared. Is anyone present?

The drummer collaborated with Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt to pay tribute to Christine at the Grammy Awards event.

The Fleetwood Mac songbird, written and sung by Christine, was played by the group, and the legend acknowledged he was happy to be able to “make a lot of fuss” about his late bandmate.

“I think it’s time to recognise the wonder of a remarkably brilliant, endearing, and unassuming woman by the name of Christine McVie,” he stated.

Although there is much fuss, we are quite glad to be making a fuss over her.

It has a double edge since it includes both a quiet prayer that expresses some loss-related anguish and a time of celebration. But seeing it actually materialise with this great lady [Sheryl], and Bonnie, is something I find very beautiful.

In 1990, Fleetwood admitted to Mac author Stephen Davis that McVie was the reason the group survived into the 1970s and went on to achieve the enormous success of Rumours. Christine became the glue, he said. She brilliantly rounded out our sound.
