Nitish Kumar, chief minister of Bihar, questioned the need for a new Parliament building on Saturday and said it made “no sense” to attend its inauguration on Sunday.
“Why was a new Parliament required? The previous structure was a historic one… Kumar told reporters that it made no sense for him to attend both the NITI Aayog meeting today and the inauguration of the new Parliament building tomorrow.
The chief minister of Bihar also claimed that those in authority will alter India’s history.
“I have repeatedly stated that those in power will alter the course of this nation’s history,” he said.
The leader of the Janata Dal (United) stated that he respected India’s first prime minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru, and was therefore saddened by Nehru’s passing.
“The current Parliament is part of the annals of India… Why did this government abruptly decide to construct a new Parliament? Because it desires to alter the past of this county,” Kumar added.
Demanding that the new building be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu, Kumar’s party has already declared its intention to abstain from the new Parliament House’s inauguration by Prime Minister Modi.

“JD(U) firmly believes that the President of India is an integral element of the parliamentary system of India. As President Droupadi Murmu holds the highest constitutional office in the nation, she should have been invited to open the new Parliament building in New Delhi by the Narendra Modi administration. “However, PM Modi will inaugurate the new Parliament building himself, disregarding moral values,” JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha had previously stated.
