Nitish Kumar reverses school holiday cut that enraged teachers.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar rescinded the August 29 ruling days after supporting education department officials’ decision.

PATNA:The Bihar government on Monday evening withdrew a controversial order to curtail the number of holidays for the state’s schools from 22 to 8 over the next five months this year on the orders of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Kumar has told the officials to cancel the order from August 29. This comes just a few days after he backed the decision made by the education department, which is run by assistant chief secretary KK Pathak, and asked what was wrong with reducing the number of holidays. “After all, everyone wants schools to teach them…. Those who have something to say should tell me. I am here to hear everyone. He’s getting the job done well. He said on Saturday, “I want all kids to go to school.”

A government official said that the chief minister changed his mind after a group of teacher leaders told him about the situation. The group included Shatrughan Prasad Singh, the president of the Bihar Secondary Teachers’ Association and a former MP, as well as MLCs Sanjiv Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar, who represent teachers.

After this meeting, the director of secondary education sent out a notice that said, “The August 29 order containing the holiday list for government primary, middle, and secondary schools is canceled with immediate effect.”

The move comes just one day after the education department fired a teacher in the Khagaria area for criticizing the government for keeping schools open on Rakshabandhan.

After his sister came from Bhagalpur to his middle school in Mathurapur to tie him a Rakhi, his emotional reaction was caught on a cell phone camera. “A teacher must have this much freedom. “If the department’s order turned out to be a failure, how can teachers keep saying the opposite just to make officials happy?” asked a school teacher about the suspension order.
