Karachi: On Friday, unknown heavily armed terrorists broke into the office of the Karachi Police Chief in Pakistan’s most populous city, leading to heavy firing between paramilitary rangers, police, and the attackers. This is the latest brazen attack on security forces in the midst of an increase in terrorist attacks across the country.
A representative for the Karachi Police Department issued a statement in which they acknowledged that an assault had taken place on the head office of the Karachi Police Chief.
According to the statement, there has been “firing” going on.
Javed Odho, the chief of police in Karachi, also acknowledged in a tweet that his office had been the target of an assault, but he said that the security forces had effectively reacted.
It has been reported that the number of terrorists who participated in the assault cannot be verified by the sources.
The attackers initially entered the facility after throwing six hand grenades into the main courtyard of the office building that houses the Karachi Police Chief.
“There is heavy shooting going on between police, paramilitary rangers, and the people who are attacking. According to a source inside the police department, “all mobile vans in the district and region have been promptly dispatched to the place in order to surround the assailants.”
The office of the Chief of Police of Karachi is situated in close proximity to the city’s main thoroughfare, which connects the city centre with the airport.
At this day, no group has claimed responsibility for the assault.
After the Pakistani Taliban broke a ceasefire with the government in November, there has been an increase in the number of terrorist incidents that have taken place in Pakistan.

Over one hundred people, the majority of whom were police officers, were killed when a suicide bomber from the Taliban detonated himself in a mosque in Pakistan’s volatile northwestern city of Peshawar last month during afternoon prayers in a high-security zone. The mosque was packed with worshippers.
