Rare rocks for Lord Ram idol reach Ayodhya from Nepal

Special prayers were held on Thursday afternoon following which the rocks were presented to the Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Fifty-one vedic teachers also worshipped the rocks, officials said.

Special rocks from Nepal, from which the idol of Lord Ram will be carved and placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Temple, have arrived, according to a senior temple official.The rocks, also known as ‘shilas,’ arrived late Wednesday night.

On Thursday afternoon, after special prayers, the rocks were presented to the Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. 51 vedic teachers also worshipped the rocks, according to officials.

According to these sources, Mahant Tapeshwar Das of the Janaki Mandir in Nepal presented these rocks to Champat Rai, general secretary of the Ram Temple Trust.The stone idol of Lord Ram’s ‘baalroop’ (child form) will be placed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple, which is expected to be completed by January of next year.

Rajendra Singh Pankaj, national secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, departed Nepal’s Mustang district on January 25 with two sacred rocks. Two separate trucks brought these 60 million-year-old rocks from Nepal to Ayodhya. Previously, Prakash Gupta, office-in-charge of temple trust, stated that one rock weighs 26 tonnes and the other 14 tonnes.

The two holy stones, one weighing 18 tons and another of 16 tons, have been approved both technically and scientifically for the making of the idol, informed the Nepali officials.

Meanwhile, a two-day meeting of the building construction committee of the Ram Temple began in Ayodhya from Saturday.

Nepali Congress leader and former deputy prime minister Bimalendra Nidhi, who hails from Janakpur, the birthplace of Sita, coordinated with the Janaki Temple which is sent the two stones from the Kali Gandaki River where Shaligrams are found in abundance. according to a report

The two rocks were discovered in the Gandaki river near Saligrama or Muktinath (place of salvation) in the Mustang district of Nepal.
