On Friday, China expressed concern that a “airship” flew into US airspace and said the craft was there for scientific and meteorological research. It would be an outrageous act of defiance for China to have a spy balloon flying over the United States for a few days before US Secretary of State Antony Blinken travels to Beijing, as reported by US officials on Thursday.
The Chinese foreign ministry issued a statement late Friday saying it will keep in touch with the US in order to deal with the unexpected scenario responsibly.
