The Pink Floyd Dark Side
Still, we have no idea which one is Pink. But now we know that former band members think Roger Waters, who led the band and wrote many of their hit albums, is the exact opposite of a pinko. Activists have gone after Waters because they think he has said things that are anti-Semitic, and there have been campaigns to stop his concerts in Germany and Poland. He has basically said that Israel would be okay if it were a fully democratic country where everyone had the same rights, no matter their race or history. But it doesn’t. It has different rules for Jews and Muslims.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, there was a new rift between Waters and the rest of the world. He has taken a hard-to-agree-with position: Putin is an aggressor, but not the most aggressive one. Joe Biden is mostly to blame for starting a conflict that Waters thinks could lead to World War III. Biden has to take care of the military-industrial complex, and the international press helps him do this.
In fact, the US has always put its power where it doesn’t belong, and the international press has helped spread lies like the one about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. But his argument doesn’t answer the main question: Is Putin or Biden to blame for Ukraine? On the issue of Israel, though, many Indians who see how state-backed majoritarianism affects their country might agree with Waters.
Don’t care what we think. Both Israel and the UK are very different from us. What Pink Floyd thinks is now the most important thing on the Internet. Polly Samson, who is married to guitarist and singer David Gilmour and has written songs for many of the band’s albums, has made the rift within public:
Gilmour has stepped up to help his wife, even though she didn’t need any help. He picked his spot in the ring in April of last year, when he and drummer Nick Mason released ‘Hey, Hey, Rise Up!,’ Pink Floyd’s first song in eight years. It used the vocal track of a traditional Ukrainian song sung by musician Andriy Khlyvnyuk, which had already gone viral. Khlyvnyuk’s video was shot in Kyiv’s Sophia Square after he joined the Territorial Defense Forces after a tour of the US. He sang while holding an automatic rifle. After getting hurt in battle, he joined the National Police of Ukraine.
Most recently, Russia asked Waters to talk to the UN security council. He called for an immediate end to the fighting in Ukraine, but the Ukrainian ambassador said that his words were “just another brick in the wall” of Moscow’s propaganda.
This week, Dark Side of the Moon is getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary on March 1. Most of the lyrics are credited to Waters, and it is thought that he insisted on writing them more clearly. This made it one of the biggest commercial hits of all time, a point of reference in psychedelic music, and an inspiration for thousands of musicians.
Dark Side of the Moon is a strong political work by a man who was careful about what he said. He might not be as careful as he used to be. In his comments about Israel and Ukraine, he has tried to answer difficult geopolitical questions, and the answers don’t always make sense. In the Berliner Zeitung, where brave reporters talked to him over the weekend, he says that it’s because Western propaganda has made people hard of hearing. On his site, you can find the English version. Waters’ views on the Ukraine conflict are out of date because they are based on the politics of the Vietnam War era, which he was a part of. His views on Israel are not wise from a political point of view, but they make sense from an ethical point of view.

The Russians, who Waters supports, were the ones who said the meanest thing about him. In September, he wrote an open letter to Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, saying that he did not agree with the West giving weapons to Kyiv. On Tuesday, Russia asked him to talk at a UN meeting about the same thing. “Let’s see what he has to say,” Vassily Nebenzia, the Russian ambassador to the UN, said. Maybe he will also sing for us.” That was a low blow to a man who isn’t in the best of health but has always been honest about the fact that his singing voice isn’t great.
