Murali Vijay Announces Retirement From All Forms of International Cricket.

Murali Vijay represented India in a total of 87 matches, scoring a total of 4490 runs. His last appearance for the national team came in December 2018 against Australia.

At the age of 38, veteran Indian batter Murali Vijay announced the end of his international playing days. On January 30, Monday, the veteran politician from Tamil Nadu made his choice public with a statement on Twitter.

Vijay, who was once India’s go-to Test opener, had lost favour after a succession of subpar performances in the 2018 campaign. Vijay was dropped by the Indian team management during the second Test match in Australia after he only managed to record one Test century against Afghanistan in Bangalore.

Vijay was one of the most elegant batters in the opening positions. In 61 Tests, he amassed 12 Test hundreds and 15 half-centuries. He completed 3982 runs, averaging 38.28. While playing with Chennai Super Kings, the Tamil Nadu player also made an impact on the Indian Premier League. The IPL’s top batsman earned 2619 runs at a strike rate of 121.87 from 106 games while scoring two hundred.

In his letter of resignation, the player stated that his years as a professional cricketer from 2002 to 2018 were the most fantastic of his life and that it had been an honour for him to represent India at the highest level of the game.

I appreciate the chances the BCCI, TNCA, CSK, and Chemplast Sanmar have given me, Vijay wrote. It has been an amazing honour to have played with you all, and I thank you all for helping me realise my ambition, said Vijay to his teammates, coaches, mentors, and support staff.

“I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket and the business side of it, where I will also continue to participate in the sport that I love and challenge myself in new and different environments,” 38-year-old Vijay said in a statement. “I believe this is the next step in my journey as a cricketer and I look forward to the new chapter in my life.”
