‘Jeopardises Harmony’: Ladakh BJP Leader Expelled After Son Elopes With Buddhist Woman

Nazir Ahmad, aged 74, was relieved of his duties as state vice president of the Ladakh BJP and of his primary membership in the party.
The senior leader was given a “opportunity to clarify his involvement in the delicate matter of his son’s elopement with a Buddhist girl,” according to a party statement.

“A meeting was convened, with the State President presiding and the Executive Members in attendance. Sh. Nazir Ahmed, State Vice President of the BJP in Ladakh, was given abundant time to clarify his involvement in the sensitive matter of his son Manzoor Ahmed’s elopement with a Buddhist girl. “The incident is deemed unacceptable by all religious communities in Ladakh because it threatens communal harmony and unity in this region,” the statement read.

On Wednesday, Ladakh BJP chief Phunchok Stanzin issued the expulsion order following a party executive meeting.In a statement, the BJP stated that elopement is “unacceptable to all religious communities in Ladakh because it threatens communal harmony and regional unity.”
The couple reportedly wed more than a month ago and have been untraceable ever since.
According to Republic Aeon, the expelled leader stated in his defence that his family was also against the marriage and that he has no idea where they have been for the past month.
Nazir Ahmad stated that he was on the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia when his son married the woman in court.
