India vs Australia, 4th Test Day 4 Highlights: It was Virat Kohli’s day in Ahmedabad, as the batting superstar enthralled the thousands of fans who had gathered to witness the fourth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test on Sunday. Kohli lost out on a double century, which would have been his eighth in Tests, but he scored his highest total against Australia.
In addition to concluding his 1204-day wait for a Test century, Virat Kohli helped eliminate the possibility of an Indian loss in the final match of the series after Australia scored 480 runs in the first innings. Kohli played a risk-free innings of 186 as India posted 571, securing a 91-run lead in the final session of Day 4 of a Test that has moved at a snail’s pace thus far.

Australia, who sent nightwatchman Matthew Kuhnemann and Travis Head to open the inning, endured a few tense moments as they went to the Stumps at 3 for 0 and still trailing by 88 runs.
When Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin bowled 5 overs between them in the final 30 minutes of Day 4, the pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium, which had been docile until that point, began to play pranks. In fact, KS Bharat dropped Kuhnemann in the penultimate over of the day because Ashwin’s carrom-ball failed to produce the desired result.

India’s batting confidence was low after the first three Tests were contested on slow-turning pitches. And when Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green scored hundreds for Australia, India came under duress. To the delight of the local crowd, India’s batting unit, particularly the top order, stepped up with centuries from the young Shubman Gill and the veteran Virat Kohli.

Cheteshwar Pujara (42), KS Bharat (44), and Axar Patel (79) made significant contributions as India batsmen forced Australian bowlers to work hard for their wickets over two days in Ahmedabad’s scorching heat. Shreyas Iyer was unavailable to bat for India on Day 4, as the middle-order batsman was scanned for a possible back injury.
