On Saturday, CR Kesavan, the great-grandson of India’s first Indian Governor-General, C Rajagopalachari, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dealing another setback to the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections next year.

Kesavan told reporters after his saffron switch, “I would like to thank the BJP for inducting me into the world’s largest political party, and on the day that our prime minister is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu.”
“Prime Minister Modi’s people-centered policies, corruption-free governance, and reform-driven inclusive development agenda have transformed India from a fragile economy to the world’s fifth largest,” he said.
Kesavan resigned from the Congress on February 23, stating that he has seen no trace of the values that inspired him to devote over two decades to the party.
Kesavan tweeted his resignation letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, stating that he could no longer support “what the party represents, stands for, or seeks to propagate.”
