Sharad Pawar announces resignation as NCP chief

On Tuesday, veteran politician Sharad Pawar announces his resignation as leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Sharad Pawar resigns as leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). On Tuesday, veteran politician Sharad Pawar announces his resignation as leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Sharad Pawar, P. A. Sangma, and Tariq Anwar founded the Nationalist Congress Party in June 1999 after being expelled from the Indian National Congress in May 1999.

While attending an event, Sharad Pawar proclaimed his resignation as national president of the NCP. He continued, “I want someone else to lead the party now…I want to focus on politics.”

The supporters of NCP leader Sharad Pawar promptly began sloganeering and demanding the resignation be retracted. In the midst of the announcement, his daughter Supriya Sule and nephew Ajit Pawar also implored the supporters to remain calm.

After announcing his resignation, Pawar stated that a committee will be formed to designate the next party leader. The committee will include NCP leaders Supriya Sule, Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Dilip Walse Patel.
