Don’t stop Delhi budget, Kejriwal writes to PM Modi after Centre halts Delhi Budget

Arvind Kejriwal yesterday declared that the Delhi Budget would not be presented today and blamed the Centre, calling it “hooliganism”.

Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting that he “not stop Delhi’s budget” amidst a dispute between the Centre and the AAP government in the national capital over the issue. Tuesday’s scheduled presentation of the Delhi government’s Budget for 2023-24 has been postponed due to a dispute between the Kejriwal administration and the central government over allocations under various heads.

“This is the first state budget impasse in the last seventy-five years. Why are you angry with Delhi residents? Please do not delay the budget for Delhi. “With folded hands, the citizens of Delhi implore you to approve their budget,” the chief minister wrote in a letter.

Monday on a News18 program, Kejriwal claimed that the Centre was engaging in “gundagardi” and that it was the first time in the country’s history that a government’s budget had been placed on hold. The Aam Aadmi Party posted a video footage of his address via Twitter.

On Twitter, the chief minister also shared a news article about Delhi’s rising per capita income and stated, “Despite the daily creation of obstacles, Delhi is doing exceptionally well. Imagine if such obstacles did not exist and all governments collaborated for the benefit of the people. Then Delhi’s growth would be multiplied.”

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has halted the budget, and it will not be presented to the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday, according to city government sources.

As the chief minister lashed out at the Centre, MHA sources stated that the ministry had sought clarification from the AAP government regarding its budget proposal, which had a relatively high allocation for advertising and a relatively low allocation for infrastructure and other development projects.
