Ruturaj Gaikwad created history, hit 7 consecutive sixes in one over

Sports Desk: In the second quarterfinal match of the domestic 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy, Ruturaj Gaikwad rained runs while tearing apart Uttar Pradesh. Playing for Maharashtra, Ruturaj created history by hitting 7 consecutive sixes in a single over on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. By doing this, he left behind Yuvraj Singh in the matter of hitting more consecutive sixes in any format.

Actually, Gaikwad hit 7 consecutive sixes in the 49th over of the innings against Uttar Pradesh. Shiva Singh became the victim of his havoc. Shiva got 4 consecutive sixes in the first 4 balls. The next ball Shiva bowled a no ball, on which Gaikwad also hit a six. After this, Gaikwad made an amazing record of hitting 7 sixes in a single over by hitting two consecutive sixes in the next two balls as well.

However, at the international level, the record is still held by Yuvraj, who hit Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup. But if we talk about the overall record, then till now no other Indian batsman has done the work of hitting 7 consecutive sixes in a single over. Earlier in the year 2017, Sri Lanka’s Navindu Pahasara had hit seven sixes in an over. He scored an inning of 109 runs in 89 balls while playing for Fogg Cricket Academy in the Under-15 Murali Goodness Cup.

Ruturaj wreaked havoc, collecting 43 runs in one over from Shiva. Gaikwad scored an unbeaten total of 220 runs, which came in 159 balls. His innings included 10 fours and 16 sixes, as a result of which Maharashtra scored 330 runs losing 5 wickets in 50 overs.
