The “Jewel of Kashmir,” the Thajiwas Glacier, is three kilometres from Sonmarg and features a frozen lake, snow-capped mountains, fir and pine trees, alpine meadows, gushing cascades, and small streams. It is a go-to location for trekkers and is also well-known for pony racing and sledding. The months of April through October are the best for travel.

Trekkers, take heed! One of the most breathtaking and exciting locations you will see is Thajiwas glacier, which is only 3 km from Sonmarg. This mountain is a treasure trove of Jammu and Kashmir, and activities like hiking, sledding, and pony trips only make it more thrilling.

I’m not sure if a camera could capture the true enchantment of this place, with its frozen lake, mountains blanketed in snow, fir and pine trees, and alpine meadows that are unfathomably beautiful. A hike can be taken to get to the waterfalls that encircle Thajiwas Glacier. The tiny streams that run through this glacier only serve to accentuate its majesty.

Along with spending a relaxing evening building a snowman or engaging in a snowball battle, visitors can camp close to the glacier. The glacier is at its most beautiful between April and October, when the weather is perfect. One of the most visited places in Sonmarg is Thajiwas Glacier, and the best way to explore this wonderland is by hiking to the summit. The area, which is appropriately known as the “Jewel of Kashmir,” is among the finest winter tourist destinations in Sonmarg.
