The Mumbai Police detained a 27-year-old man on Monday for allegedly aiding the suicide of his wife, whom he had married six months earlier. The mother of Heena, the dead, claimed in a police report that Iftar Ahmed, a resident of Govandi, beat her repeatedly before she committed suicide.

Heena was reportedly discovered last Thursday by Iftar hanging from a ceiling fan in their Govandi apartment. Heena was brought dead to the hospital after he hurried her there.

The Deonar police in the area recorded Sabina Khan, Heena’s mother, on Saturday. She said in her testimony that soon after the wedding, Iftar would abuse Heena and forbid her from visiting her family at their Shivaji Nagar home in Govandi.

Sabina further said that Iftar prevented Heena from leaving the house, which caused the latter to become irate and ultimately commit herself.

Based on the statement, the Deonar police detained Iftar and filed cases against him for aiding in suicide, intentionally inflicting harm, and unlawful imprisonment.

When Heena was married off, an officer indicated they were investigating if she was a juvenile. She may have been a minor when she got married, according to rumours. Her precise age is being confirmed. More parts may be added to the lawsuit if she were a juvenile.
