Meghna Naidu: ‘Stopped attending parties, I was weary of being labelled a B-grade actress’

Meghna Naidu claims that she turned down several roles because they required her to perform kissing and intimate sequences that were unnecessary to the plot of the film.

Meghna Naidu has stated that working in “hot and sexy” roles has never been a problem for her, but she “cannot be limited to doing only that.” In her most recent interview, she also recalled being referred to as a “B-list actress.”

Meghna appeared in a handful of Telugu and Kannada films before moving to Bollywood. Meghna began her career in Hindi entertainment with a renowned music video, the 2002 remix of Lata Mangeshkar’s song Kaliyon Ka Chaman. She subsequently appeared in a number of other music videos, including Saru Maini’s Dil De Diya Tha (Sutta Mix).

Meghna declined kissing/love-making roles

Meghna told ETimes that she is excited to return to the industry at a time when actors have more opportunities for experimentation. “Although I initially relished the attention and labels of being ‘hot’ and’sexy,’ I soon realized that they were impeding my development as an artist. Frustratingly, I was perceived as a sexual object. I turned down roles in Hindi films that required me to participate in kissing or romantic sequences. People were unable to see past my screen persona, and I longed for diverse roles. I ceased attending events and parties because I was fed up with being referred to as a B-list actress.”

Glad to return now

She added that even though she had worked on low-budget films, the filmmakers had always respected her. “I am pleased to return at a time when actors have more opportunities for experimentation. I don’t mind portraying a hot and seductive character, but I cannot be limited to doing so. I have viewed a few OTT series in which intimate sequences appeared to be forced in.”
