The ‘battlefield’ that is Gaza City has become the latest target of Hamas’ captive demand to Israel.

“We moved to the next stage in the war,” Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

As part of a bigger air operation against Hamas in the Palestinian territory, the Israeli army told people in Gaza City that the area was now a “battlefield.” “To the people who live in the Gaza Strip: Gaza City, which is in the Gaza governorate, has turned into a battlefield.” This is not a safe place to stay in northern Gaza or the Gaza strip, the army said in leaflets dropped by fighter jets. Also, people were told to “evacuate immediately” to the south.

This comes after Israel sent more troops and tanks to Gaza and launched heavy air and sea attacks to support its ground operation. The defense minister of Israel said that “the ground shook in Gaza” and that the war had moved on to a new phase.

“We moved to the next stage of the war,” Yoav Gallant, Israel’s Defense Minister, said. “Last night, the ground shook in Gaza.” We hit both above and below ground. It’s clear what the forces should do. The effort will keep going until further notice.

According to the news agency AFP, a spokesman for Hamas said that the group wanted Israel to free all Palestinian inmates in exchange for hostages.

Palestinians have lost just over 7,700 lives in Gaza since October 7. Since late Friday, 377 more people have died. Gaza’s health ministry said that most of the people who were killed were women and children. Spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra told reporters that the health network has been “totally paralyzed” because of the problems with communication.

Volker Turk, who is in charge of human rights at the UN, said that “thousands more civilians” could die because of “the possibly catastrophic consequences of large-scale ground operations in Gaza.”

According to Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for Gaza’s Civil Defense, “hundreds of buildings and houses were completely destroyed and thousands of other homes were damaged” in the overnight attacks.

His words to AFP were, “If it had been a natural earthquake, it would have been much easier than what happened last night.” He also said, “What happened last night was more like a horror movie.” People on the streets have turned into dead bodies that walk.
