Dawid Malan’s masterclass propels England to a three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the opening ODI.

With this victory, England leads the three-match series 1-0.

In pursuit of 210, England lost their opening batsman, Jason Roy, to all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. With this knock, Roy’s string of low scores continued.

Phil Salt attempted to rebuild the inning with Malan, but Taijul Islam removed his leg stump for only 12 runs.

James Vince was dismissed for only six runs by Taijul Islam, his second wicket. While Taskin Ahmed limited captain Jos Buttler to only nine runs, At 65/4 after 16.1 overs, England was in a perilous situation.

Malan joined forces with Will Jacks, who played aggressive cricket by hitting boundaries and sixes in his debut. They brought their team to the 100-run mark, but Jacks was dismissed by all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 26 off 31 balls, which included three fours and a six. Half of England’s team had returned to the pavilion after 103 runs.

Moeen Ali, an all-rounder, attempted to revive England’s run-chase prospects, but Miraz and Taijul removed him for 14 and Chris Wookes followed suit (7). England’s score was 161-7 after 38.5 overs.

Malan’s century was achieved in 134 deliveries, keeping England’s hopes alive. He shared a 51-run partnership with Adil Rashid (17*) to help England win the match and also hit the winning boundary with eight balls remaining. Malan scored 114* with eight fours and four sixes off 145 balls.

Miraz scored 2/35, while Taijul scored 3/54. Taskin and Shakib each took a head.

After electing to bat first, Bangladesh was dismissed for a mere 209 runs. For their team, Najmul Hossain Shanto (58), Mahmudullah (31), and captain Tamim Iqbal (23) made significant contributions with the bat.

Jofra Archer’s 2 for 37 was the best bowling performance. Mark Wood and Mooen each took two wickets, while Woakes and Jacks each take one.

Malan was named “Player of the Match” for his magnificent century.

Bangladesh’s 209 (Najmul Shanto 58, Mahmudullah 31, Jofra Archer 2/37) was defeated by England’s 212/7 in 48.4 overs (Dawid Malan 114*, Will Jacks 26, Taijul Islam 3/54).
