Shakib Al Hasan returns to Bangladesh squad for Afghanistan ODIs

The three-match ODI series will commence on July 5, at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, in Chattogram.

The Bangladesh cricket team has announced a 15-man squad for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Afghanistan. The three-match ODI series will begin in Chattogram on July 5 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Notably, the venue will host all three of the series’ matches.

Shakib Al Hasan, a star all-rounder for Bangladesh, has rejoined the squad for the impending three-match series. Due to a finger injury sustained in May’s ODI series against Ireland, the 36-year-old was unable to play in the one-off Test against Afghanistan at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The hosts will attempt to extend their winning sequence in the 50-over format, as they did against India and Ireland in recent matches.

Before the series against Afghanistan, Bangladesh played a T20I series, a one-off Test, and an ODI series against Ireland. Bangladesh hosted the limited-overs series, while the one-off Test and ODI series were contested in the United Kingdom. Notably, the team captained by Tamim Iqbal swept the entire series against Ireland.

In a one-off Test, Bangladesh crushed Afghanistan by 546 runs.

Afghanistan’s tour of Bangladesh commenced with a single Test, which the Litton Das-led side won by a massive 546 runs. Due to Najmul Hossain Shanto’s century, Bangladesh scored 382 in their first innings. Ebadot Hossain claimed four wickets as the visitors’ first innings was dismissed for 146 runs.

Taskin Ahmed took four wickets as the hosts restricted Hashmatullah Shahidi’s team to 115 runs in order to win the contest by 546 runs. The victory represented the third-largest victory in the game’s longest format.

The series of three ODIs between Bangladesh and Afghanistan will be followed by a series of three T20Is.
