Operation Dost
As the dead toll from the terrible earthquake surpassed 33,000 on Monday, Turkey’s Ambassador to India, Firat Sunel, expressed gratitude to India for delivering aid supplies to his nation in the wake of the disaster.
Mr. Sunel took to social media and tweeted the following: “Another batch of emergency in-kind gifts from the people of India is on the way to Turkiye.” Free of charge, @TurkishAirlines and @TK INDIA are transporting assistance supplies on a regular basis to the area that was struck by the earthquake. #VasudhaivaKutumbakam #earthquake #earthquakeinturkey

“I AM SO GRATEFUL TO INDIA! Each and every tent, each and every blanket, and each and every sleeping bag are of the utmost significance for the hundreds of thousands of survivors of the earthquake.
On Sunday, the seventh aircraft of “Operation Dost” arrived in Syria, which had been struck by an earthquake. The flight brought over 23 tonnes of relief supplies, which were met at Damascus airport by Moutaz Douaji, Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment.
“The seventh flight of Operation Dost has arrived in Syria carrying over 23 tonnes of relief supplies, including generators, solar lights, emergency and critical care medications, and disaster relief consumables,” the organisation said in a tweet. Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of External Affairs, tweeted that Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment Moutaz Douaji had greeted him upon arrival at Damascus International Airport.
Last week, Mr. Sunel said that “Operation Dost” is a representation of the relationship that exists between India and Turkey.

He said this as he was giving a speech at the Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad. “Action Dost is a symbolic operation.” It already demonstrates that we are friends with one another. It is imperative that we strengthen our ties.”
The catastrophic earthquake has claimed the lives of 29,605 individuals in Turkey and around 3,500 persons in Syria.
Note: Operation Dost is an ongoing search and rescue operation initiated by the Government of India to aid Syria and Turkey, after the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake devastated both countries on 6 February 2023.
