As tech companies lay off workers, Kejriwal asks the Center to step in.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Centre should evaluate the IT sector employment losses and take action.

IT firms are firing many young people. Kejriwal stated that the Centre must assess the situation in India and act. The CM was alluding to news that several IT firms in the country and overseas have laid off people in recent weeks.

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted, “The unemployment rate is 7.1%, kids are committing suicide because of the shortage of jobs and now our educated, skilled youth are losing jobs. IT firms’ ongoing layoffs raise doubts about our identity as an IT centre and economy’s future.” Amazon, Microsoft, and Swiggy have fired workers.

Delhi’s 2022-23 “rozgaar” budget included a major shopping festival, cloud kitchen policy, and other initiatives to create jobs. Many of these efforts have stalled, postponing the government’s ambition to create lakhs of jobs in the next years.
