Most of the country is still covered in dense fog and cold waves, according to the IMD. Over the next 24 hours, the temperature is likely to drop in Central India and East India, while scattered rain is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the islands.
As per sources, the winter vacations for schools are likely to be extended for one more week (January 9 to 15) on the demand of the parents over cold weather, the sources said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that the temperature in East India will drop another 2–4 degrees Celsius over the next 24 hours (January 6). IMD also said that in the next 24 hours, the temperature will drop in Central India.
IMD says that there will be dense to very dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, as well as in some parts of Uttar Pradesh. There will also be dense fog in North Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, and Meghalaya.
In its daily weather report, IMD said, “Ground frost is very likely in some isolated parts of Rajasthan.”

IMD says that South Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathawada will have a few spots of light rain in the next 24 hours.

On Friday, January 6, rain and thundershowers were seen in a few places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The IMD said that scattered rain will fall in a few places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the next few days.
