Meghalaya election result 2023 updates: Soon, the counting of votes for the Meghalaya assembly election will commence, and by 10 a.m., early trends will emerge. For the Meghalaya assembly election, thirteen tallying centres have been set up with multiple layers of security. The state voted on February 27, and 85.17 percent of eligible voters participated.

What do exit polls indicate?
According to pollsters, Meghalaya may be in for a heated election. As per three exit polls the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) is likely to emerge as the single largest party in a hung assembly scenario, but may halt short of the halfway mark.
Three exit polls also said that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) – which is now being led in the state by former chief minister Mukul Sangma – may emerge as the second largest outfit, followed by the Congress and the BJP. Mukul Sangma led 12 congressmen to defect from the Congress and join the TMC in 2021. The United Democratic Party may also emerge as a decisive factor in a close election, the polls hinted.

A meeting between the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad Sangma, at a hotel in Guwahati on Tuesday night has prompted rumours of the NPP’s return to the NDA after a bitter campaign. Exit polls predict a hung assembly in Meghalaya, with Sangma’s NPP emerging as the leader of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), despite the fact that the two parties contested the elections separately. Sarma, the convener of the North East Democratic Alliance (Neda), was instrumental in assembling a six-party coalition in 2018 that denied Congress, the single-largest party, the opportunity to form a government.
