Manish Sisodia’s ED custody extended by five days

Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was produced before Rouse Avenue court, which extended his custody till March 22. The ED had sought a seven-day extension of the AAP leader’s custody.

Manish Sisodia’s ED custody extended: On Friday, a Delhi court extended by five days the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, who was detained in a money laundering case relating to the now-repealed Delhi excise policy.

Sisodia was brought before the court on Rouse Avenue in Delhi, which extended his detention until March 22.This comes hours after the ED requested a seven-day extension for the former deputy CM of Delhi. Sisodia, who was detained by the financial investigation agency on March 9 after two days of questioning, has been lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail since the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him in the same case a month ago.

After extending his custody, the court permitted Sisodia to sign cheques for Rs 40,000 for his family’s expenditures and Rs 45,000 for his wife’s medical expenses, as reported by the news agency ANI.

The financial investigation agency stated that Manish Sisodia would face witnesses in the case. The ED informed the court that it had recovered Sisodia’s cloud data, which contained 1.23 million email dumps, and that it required time to conduct a forensic investigation of the data. The Enforcement Division (ED) alleged that Sisodia discarded his old phone, which contained information about the now-dismissed Delhi liquor case.

Sisodia’s attorney opposed ED’s request for an extension of remand and stated that no communication from the agency regarding the criminal proceeds had been received. This comes one day after the CBI filed a new case against jailed former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia for allegedly abusing his official position and using the city government’s Feedback Unit for “political snooping.”
