Operation ‘Ajay’: On Friday morning, the 1st charter flight enroute to New Delhi to repatriate Indian citizens who were detained in Israel as a result of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict touched down.

On Friday morning, the initial charter flight enroute to extricate Indian nationals detained in Israel as a result of the ongoing conflict touched down in New Delhi. Under the auspices of “Operation Ajay,” the flight transporting 212 Indian passengers, including an infant, departed from the Ben Gurion airport in Israel on Thursday night. According to reports, the passengers were selected based on the principle of “first come, first served.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar uploaded images of the initial repatriation of detained citizens to X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday night with the caption: “Operation Ajay commences. The flight carrying 212 passengers is enroute to New Delhi.

‘Operation Ajay’ was initiated by the government on Wednesday in an effort to repatriate stranded citizens from Israel, where the terrorist organization Hamas is engaging in intense combat. This occurred subsequent to the cessation of commercial operations by Air India and other airlines to and from Israel on October 7, when the conflict broke out.

“Operation Ajay is being initiated to facilitate the repatriation of American citizens who desire to return from Israel. Special charter flights and additional provisions are being made. “Strongly dedicated to ensuring the security and welfare of our citizens while they are traveling abroad,” S. Jaishankar had declared on X.

The Indians will be retrieved by means of specially chartered aircraft as part of this operation; if necessary, Indian Navy vessels will also be mobilized.
