Sharad Pawar says those who slammed his Palestine remark are ‘more loyal than king’

After NCP president Sharad Pawar declared India historically stood with Palestine because Palestinians were the original residents, a big war of words began.

Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) , incited a significant verbal dispute by asserting that India had historically supported Palestine, given that it considered Palestinians to be the indigenous inhabitants of the region. Sharad Pawar, according to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, ought to dispatch his daughter Supriya Sule to Gaza to fight for Hamas. Sharad Pawar’s pro-Palestine stance was met with criticism from a number of BJP leaders, including Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, and Devendra Fadnavis, in addition to Himanta. Sharad Pawar cited all “unsolicited advice and comments” on Friday, claiming that these BJP leaders are “more loyal than the king,” in contrast to the statement made by Prime Minister Modi to the President of Palestine on Thursday.

In reference to Prime Minister Modi’s statement regarding his conversation with Palestine, during which he reaffirmed India’s enduring stance on the matter and guaranteed Palestine assistance, Pawar stated that his stance remained unchanged. “I had expressed similar views on the lines expressed by past prime ministers ranging from Jawaharlal Nehru to Atal Behari Vajpayee, which was to ensure a peaceful resolution to the long-standing dispute, where Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and harmony as neighbours,” Sharad Pawar commented.

“I trust that the BJP leaders who misunderstood my remark will come to comprehend the position of the nation on this extremely delicate matter. “The expression’more loyal than the king’ is an English idiom that probably best describes the nature of their remarks,'” Sharad Pawar stated.

Prime Minister Modi condemned the “terrorist” attack by Hamas on October 7 in his initial statement, wherein he also affirmed India’s solidarity with Israel. Several leaders of the opposition questioned the statement on the grounds that India has historically advocated for Palestine to be “sovereign, independent, and viable.” As New Delhi condemned Hamas’ attack on Israel, the MEA clarified India’s stance on the Palestinian issue and Israel.

Prime Minister Modi spoke with the president of Palestine on the thirteenth day of the Israel-Hamas conflict, expressing concern over civilian casualties following the October 17 attack on a Gaza hospital. “Speake with His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority.” My condolences were extended regarding the tragic loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Humanitarian aid will continue to be distributed on behalf of the Palestinian people. Our profound concern was expressed regarding the escalating violence, terrorism, and security situation in the region. Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s enduring principled stance regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict in a social media post.

Sharad Pawar’s remarks regarding Israel-Hamas

In the past, prominent figures such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee all expressed views in support of providing assistance to Palestine during the Israeli-Pakistan conflict. Narendra Modi, the prime minister of our nation, expressed his unambiguous support for Israel for the very first time. The stance of the NCP is unambiguous. “We support the indigenous inhabitants of that territory, the people,” Sharad Pawar declared.

What caused the uproar?

Nitin Gadkari remarked, “What’s worse is Sharad Pawar ji is aware that he is making this statement to appease a specific audience; he ought to adopt a more constructive stance.” Piyush Goyal referred to this as a “rotten mentality.”
