In EC’s ‘who’s genuine NCP’ argument, Ajit Pawar claims maximum support; Sharad Pawar’s counsel calls him “imaginary.”

The Election Commission was briefed today on the conflict between the Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar factions over the election symbol and nomenclature.

Following an extensive debate in the Election Commission regarding the leadership of the NCP under Sharad Pawar or whether the party is owned by his nephew Ajit Pawar, whose rebellion splintered the party, Sharad Pawar’s attorney Abhishek Manu Singhvi stated that the opposing side’s reasoning is absurd and nonsensical. “We stated in our preliminary objection that you are required to ascertain whether or not a dispute exists as a threshold issue. Singhvi stated, “The commission heard us but stated that it will not make a decision at this time.”

At EC hearing, Ajit Pawar claims support of 42 MLAs, six MLCs and 2 MPs from Maharashtra

Singhvi stated that the opposing side’s argument, led by the faction of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, will proceed at the next hearing. “A response to that has not been provided as of yet.” It is astounding, fascinating, and in my opinion, nonexistent in the law. They are expressing their refusal to take the organizational exam. They are aware that 99 percent of the NCP cadre supports the individual standing next to me, the founder who envisioned it. They are stating, “Ignore the organizational test; they’ve devised a new one that counts the votes of MLAs and MPs, in addition to something I’ve never heard of before: the votes of MLAs and MPs.”

Ajit Pawar asserted the support of forty-two MLAs, six MLCs, and two MPs from Maharashtra during the hearing. At the Election Commission, senior advocates NK Kaul and Maninder Singh presented Ajit’s position. “Under the circumstances, the petitioner submits that he enjoys overwhelming support in the Organisational Wing as well as Legislative Wing of the NCP and therefore the present petition may be allowed by the Hon’ble Commission by recognising the faction led by the petitioner to be the real Political Party,” Ajit Pawar stated in his written submission to the Election Elections Commission. Singhvi stated that these assertions are fictitious because Ajit Pawar is evading the established tests to verify them.

Ajit Pawar submitted an application to the Election Commission on June 30, two days prior to his declaration of rebellion and subsequent alliance with the Maharashtra administration, in which he asserted ownership over the party name and symbol.
