Palestine connection: How Gigi Hadid’s father’s family was ‘kicked out’ by Jewish family they housed

Palestine connection: Recently, supermodel Gigi Hadid published an Instagram post in which she referred to the Israel-Palestine conflict as a “unjustifiable tragedy.” Numerous public figures have expressed their solidarity and condolences on behalf of Israel or Palestine. Gigi and her younger sister, the model Bella Hadid, have a unique relationship with Palestine.

The relationship between Gigi and Bella and Palestine

Mohamed Anwar Hadid, the father of Gigi, was born in 1948 in Nazareth to Anwar Mohamed Hadid and his wife Khairiah Hadid, both of whom belonged to the Palestinian Muslim faith. He asserts ancestry through his mother from Dahir al-Umar, an Arab sovereign of northern Palestine during the 18th century. Yolanda Foster, an ex-supermodel and current reality personality, is her mother. Gigi and Bela are each of mixed Palestinian and Dutch ancestry. Gigi is Jelena Noura Hadid, while Isabella Khairiah Hadid is the actual name of Bella.

When the father of Gigi and Bella explained the circumstances surrounding their departure from Palestine

The Palestine War of 1947–1949 compelled Gigi’s father and his parents to evacuate the region. According to a Washington Post profile, his father, Anwar Hadid, stated that he did not want his family to “live under the Israeli occupation.” Two nights of walking were required for his mother and father to reach the Lebanese frontier; they were subsequently granted refuge in Syria as refugees.

He uploaded an ancient photo of his family to Instagram in 2015 accompanied by a written message. “When he wrote that, I was about eighteen months old. Following our expulsion from our cherished Palestine, we established residence in Syrian refugee centers. My father obtained a temporary position at the University of Damascus in Syria. The family photographs were intended for a Palestinian refugee card. Kharia Daher Hadid, my lovely mother, is a member of the Hadid family. Mohamed Anwar Hadid is my father. Ghada, Raida, Sana, and I are my sisters. We appreciate you taking us in, Syria. “And America, thank you for enabling each of us to achieve our aspirations…”

He had, according to a 2015 report by Mondoweiss, described the circumstances surrounding their displacement. “In this manner, we were compelled to seek refuge in Syria, and our residence in Safed, a city in northern Israel, was forfeited to a Jewish family whom we hosted for two years after they were declared refugees and evicted from our place of residence, when they were Polish refugees embarking on a ship traversing the globe and were refused entry by any nation. That my past… An odd thing indeed. “That my family and I would certainly do it again,” he had stated.

Gigi has compassion for the Jewish and Palestinian peoples.

Wednesday found Gigi publishing a post to Instagram. She penned, “My condolences are extended to all individuals impacted by this egregious tragedy; this conflict claims the lives of far too many innocents each day, including children.” The daily responsibility I bear in regard to the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation fills me with profound sorrow and compassion. As in the past, I also feel obligated to my Jewish acquaintances to state unequivocally that although I harbor aspirations and hopes for the Palestinian people, they do not involve inflicting damage upon Jews.

Gigi further stated, “Terrorizing innocent people is contrary to the ‘Free Palestine’ movement and serves no purpose.” Sustaining the notion that it does so has contributed to an agonizing, multi-decade cycle of reciprocal reprisals, of which no Palestinian or Israeli civilian, regardless of innocence, should suffer, and furthers the fallacious notion that supporting Palestine is tantamount to antisemitism.

She reached her conclusion, “As I extend my condolences today alongside my Palestinian and Jewish family members for your suffering, I wish you well. From wherever you may be, my love and strength are with you.” Although there are numerous valid, complex, and personal emotions, every human being is entitled to fundamental rights, treatment, and safety, irrespective of nationality, religion, ethnic origin, or place of birth. “I am well aware that my words will never be sufficient to mend the profound wounds of so many, but I will always pray for the protection of innocent lives.” Bela has not responded to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict as of yet.
