Monday was a chaotic day in the Jharkhand assembly as protesting opposition members demanded clarification from the government regarding the state’s employment policy.Multiple times, Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto postponed the proceedings as opposition MLAs headed by the BJP claimed the government was in contempt of the House because the state cabinet was making decisions without informing the assembly.
“On March 4, the opposition broached the issue. After the high court struck down the new employment policy, it was reported in the media that the government intends to revert to the pre-2016 policy. According to the rule, the government was required to present the new policy to the assembly first, but it did not. This constitutes contempt of the Assembly “BJP MLA Neelkanth Singh Munda said.
On Thursday, the state cabinet approved amendments to various rules governing Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations, including the elimination of a provision prohibiting candidates with academic certificates from institutions outside the state from participating.The cabinet also approved the amendments, which included the addition of Hindi, English, and Sanskrit to the list of languages for the JSSC examination, bringing the total to 15.
According to a portion of the press, Munda also sought clarification on the government’s proposal to implement a 60-40 ratio in the employment system.Independent MLA Amit Yadav asked, “Through the 60-40 ratio, is the government paving the way for giving employment to outsiders? Due to the lack of a formalised employment policy, will the government grant age exemptions?”
In response, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Alamgir Alam stated: “2015 saw the House adopt an employment policy. This government made modifications to that policy, which was ultimately overturned by the supreme court. According to the court’s ruling, the government will implement some changes to its employment policy.”

He stated that the government is also contemplating providing youths with age exemptions.As the issue continued to cause disruptions, the speaker repeatedly adjourned the proceedings.The BJP legislators demanded a response from Chief Minister Hemant Soren on the matter.
